As an Independent Contractor with Assembly Technicians Unlimited (ATU) it is important for you to understand how and why you are not an employee. An independent contractor is a natural person, business, or corporation that provides services to another entity under terms specified in a contract or agreement. Unlike an employee, an independent contractor is not required to work regularly for an employer but works as and when you want, subject to what your agreement with Assembly Technicians Unlimited.  At the same time, ATU reserves the right to not use you if you violate your agreement with ATU.

Although you will not have direct supervision in performance of your work, you may be terminated if you do not adhere to what you have agreed to with ATU. Additionally, other things to consider as an independent contractor are the following: 

• As an independent contractor you are free to set your own rules of business, limited only by what you agree to in your working relationship with ATU.
• As an independent contractor, and business owner, you must pay for your own expenses to provide your contracted service. You must, therefore, acquire your own equipment to perform your service, and be responsible for any business filings such as income tax returns.
• As an independent contractor you are responsible for your own self-employment tax, which consists of both halves of the FICA tax amount.  
• As an independent contractor you will not be provided worker's compensation or unemployment insurance.

Regarding Payment for Your Services: Your first pay from ATU will be on the third Friday following the day you start working. For example, if you begin working on a Thursday your first direct deposit will be in (15) fifteen days later. If you begin working on a Saturday your first check will be directly deposited in (20) days.

Additionally, you will need to have a checking account that accepts direct deposit or an account or ability to accept ACH wire transfers like a Wal-Mart reloadable debit card.
